Postre de Manzana - Baked Apple Slices

This simple apple dessert is quick and easy to prepare. Other fruits can be substituted for the apples in this South American favorite.

Ingredients:

  • 3 apples, not yet ripe, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup lard or shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Spanish:
  • 3 manzanas verdes
  • ¾ taza de azúcar
  • ½ cucharadita de canela
  • ½ taza de harina
  • ½ taza de manteca
  • ½ cucharadita de sal

Preparation:

Grease an ovenproof dish and spread the apple slices in it. Mix the sugar, cinnamon, flour, salt and shortening in another bowl, then sprinkle over the apples.

Bake in a moderate oven 40 minutes or until the apples are tender. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Other fruits, such as pears, plums, etc., can be substituted for the apples.

Spanish: - Enmantecar una fuente de horno y distribuir allí las manzanas peladas, sin los centros y cortadas en rebanadas finas. Aparte mezclar en un bol el azúcar, la canela, la harina, la manteca y la sal. Colocar esta mezcla seca sobre las manzanas y llevar a horno moderado durante 40 minutos. Servir luego. Servir con crema doble o una crema de vainilla. Puede prepararse con otras frutas como peras, ciruelas, etc.
