Eleven teams composed of people wha have already participated in an earlier Amazing Race series, met in Miami, Florida to jump into the All Stars beginning of The Amazing Race 11. Their first destination and first clue awaited them in San Francisco Plaza in Quite, Ecuador. And the race was on!
The choice between American Airlines, which left later but arrived earlier in Quito, or COPA Airlines which left earlier but arrived in Quito two hours later was an easy one. All those who couldn't get on the American flight had to fly COPA.
Arriving after dark at Mariscal Sucre airport north of Quito, through which most visitors to Ecuador arrive and depart, the teams grabbed taxis and urged their drivers to speed toward the Plaza San Francisco for their first clues.
Although Quito is a high altitude city, and visitors usually require up to a day to adjust to the altitude, the teams don't have the time. They are on a race, however they feel.
