Cotopaxi National Park is named for Cotopaxi volcano, the highest active volcano in the world at 19,388 feet (5,911 m). It has erupted 50 times since 1738.
Cotopaxi National Park is a favorite destination for hikers, climbers, trekkers birders, wildlife viewers and those who want to enjoy the spectacular scenery.
A portion of the park includes old lava beds which some of the teams must drive through when they mistakenly go to the southern entrance and have to head north.
Wild horses live in the park, and are rounded up annually, which gives reason to the challenge awaiting the teams at their destination.
