Kourou, the Space Center of French Guiana, once the backwater mainland headquarters for the infamous penal colony of Devil's Islandm now is home to the Centre Spatial Guyanais, and a modern city with all the modern conveniences. It's also the departure point for tours of the abandoned penal colony, river cruises, nature walks in the tropical jungle, deep sea fishing, and surfing.
