Roberto Ingledew
Almirante, or Admiral Brown, was an Irish-born veteran of the Napoleonic Wars who emigrated to Argentina, and eventually became the "Father of the Argentine Navy." In an 1814 naval battle on and around the island, Brown failed to take the island away from the Spanish forces. Following a fierce battle, Argentine forces later took the island and in a masterful sleight of hand, Brown defeated the Spanish ships, capturing them and adding them to his command. He lost a leg in the process but that did not deter him from later battles with the Brazilian navy, which he defeated.
