Some of the local scenic attractions include Cerro Piltriquitrón, east of town. At 2260 m, this is highest point around. You can hike or take a taxi to the 1000 m level and then climb to the peak for the best view of the surrounding area. Hanggliding, also called paragliding, is a favorite sport on the cerro.
If you want to stay overnight in the Refugio Piltriquitrón, there is a fee, plus the cost of meals and a rental sleeping bag.
Another mountain sight is the Cabeza del Indio west of El Bolsón. You can walk or take a taxi to the trailhead which takes you up to the profile where you'll have splendid views of Río Azul and Lago Puelo. Horseback tours are a popular way to see these sights.
Take the mini hike up to Cerrito Amigo for great views of the Andean scenery.
