Colonial Building on the Plaza, Salta
As elsewhere, the plaza is the heart of the colonial city. Buildings on the plaza were alwasys the most important to the colonisers: the Cabildo, center of civic government, commercial buildings, the church or cathedral and the plaza itself, a staging ground for military exercises and defense.
Note the carved wooden balcony, the arched and decorated windows and the adjacent pink cathedral.
