Many visitors to Argentina's northwestern corner visit the multi-colored hills around Humahuaca, but it takes a devoted traveler to make the trip to the isolated, fantastically scenic high-altitude village of Iruya.

Although donkeys are plentiful in the area, most visitors take the daily bus from Humahuaca, in Jujuy province, but if you like to travel at your opwn pace, stop, stretch your legs and take photos, a round-trip taxi might be a better choice.

Some trekkers enjoy the challenge of mountains, pampas and isolation.
