South America's Schedule for 2006 World Cup Germany

Who Plays Who in the 2006 World Cup?

Brazil loses to France 1-0! <P> South America out of the World Cup. <P> Update: June 30, 2006:

Germany beat Argentina 4-2 in overtime and penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie.

Update: June 22, 2006:

From Group A, Germany with 9 points and Ecuador with 6 points, go to the Final 16.

From Group B, with only 3 points, Paraguay does not go to the Final 16. From Group C, Argentina and the Netherlands, each with 7 points, go to the Final 16.

From Group F, Brazil with 9 points and Australia with $ points, move to the Final 16.

Other teams going to the Finals: England, Sweden, Portugal, Mexico, Spain, Korea, Ukraine, Switzerland, Italy and Ghana, the last a surprise and becoming a crowd pleaser.

For the next round, to determine the quarter finals, which begin on June 30:

  • June 24 – Argentina vs Mexico 2 - 1 in overtime. Argentina will next play Germany on June 30
  • June 25 - Ecuador vs England 0 - 1 Ecuador goes home
  • June 27 – Brazil vs Ghana 3 - 0 Brazil will next play the France vs Spain match on July 1. Brazil cheers Ronaldo the record-breaker for his record breaking 5th FIFA World Cup™ goal. Who will win the World Cup?

    After the qualifying matches, the friendly games, the media publicity, the speculations and the promotions, the 2006 World Cup Germany got down to business on June 9, 2006.

    Of the South American soccer/futbol teams hoping to play in the matches, only Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Paraguay made it that far.

    The favored team from Brazil faces challenging odds. Can they win another championship?

    As of this writing, here is the schedule for the four South American countries, by Group:

    Group A

  • 9-June-2006 - Ecuador vs Poland 2 - 0
  • 15-June-2006 - Ecuador vs Costa Rica 3 - 0 Ecuador advances into the final 16
  • 20-June-2006 - Ecuador vs Germany 0 - 3

    Group B

  • 10-June-2006 - Paraguay vs England 0 - 1
  • 15-June-2006 - Paraguay vs Sweden 0 - 1
  • 20-June-2006 - Paraguay vs Trinidad and Tobago 2 - 0

    Group C

  • 10-June-2006 – Argentina vs Côte d'Ivoire 2 - 1
  • 16-June-2006 – Argentina vs Serbia and Montenegro 6 - 0
  • 21-June-2006 – Argentina vs Netherlands 0 - 0

    Group D

  • No South American countries

    Group E

  • No South American countries

    Group F

  • 13-June-2006 – Brazil vs Croatia 1 - 0 and a new World Cup Record for Brazil
  • 18-June-2006 – Brazil vs Australia 2 - 0
  • 22-June-2006 - Brazil vs Japan 4 - 1
