Night 6 brings Bruce Kanegai, who replaced Melinda Hyder after she was voted out in Tribal Council, to the Casaya camp. There, he immediately puts his experience as a wilderness guide and teacher to good use, and builds a fire. Next, he shows the tribe how to get water for drinking, by filtering it through a series of T-shirts. (Just hope they were clean shirts!)

After the tribe’s immediate need for water and fire are satisfied, they, led by Shane Powers , begin to grumble and complain about Bruce’s high-handed ways. Bruce, however, is quite pleased with himself, saying he’s emerging as the “topof the tribe.”

In La Mina camp, where the castaways have suffered the loss of the fishing spear after Sally Schumann dropped it off the raft, the tribe is making do with a snail and crab leg boil. They try their hand at fishing, using the hook and bait and are unsuccessful at catching anything but a puffer fish, which is poisonous. See page 2 for information about puffer and porcupine fish. At last, Terry Deitz catches a tiny fish which they devour with gusto.

When the tribes assemble for the Reward Challenge, the Casaya praises Bruce for his contributions. They battle for comfort items: rope, a tarp, blankets, pillows, water cans, and a kerosene lamp. When La Mina wins the challenge, they learn that they can choose which castaway in the Casaya camp must go to Exile Island. Thinking that the other tribe will crumble without Bruce, La Mina chooses him. Bruce leaves for the island, saying that he’s spent more time there than with his tribe.

The comfort items come in handy when a nighttime storm rolls in and the La Mina tribe is comfortable in their enhanced shelter. Bruce is miserable and cannot hunt for the hidden idol.

The next day, more of Shane’s mood swings are apparent as he bickers with Courtney Marit . Aras Baskauskas who has formed an alliance with Shane, Courtney and Danielle DiLorenzo , thinks he’s allied with three nutballs, while Cirie Fields chuckles at the disintegrating alliance. It makes you wonder ihow much the climate, heat and lack of nicotine affect Shane's attitudes and temper. Will he be able to hold it together in these tropical islands?

In the La Mina camp, Misty Giles and Sally Schumann form their own strategy for survival. Wanting to get Austin Carty and Nick Stanbury into an alliance, they flirt and Misty gives backrubs and massages. Austin realizes what’s going on and his position as pivotal.

At the very physical Immunity Challenge, with Bruce back to join the fray, the action is fast, rumble-tumble and Casaya team, rather than being “crumbled,” wins Immunity. That means that the La Mina tribe which has been congratulating itself for it’s togetherness and teamwork, must vote someone out. Ruth Marie Milliman is physically the weakest, but Misty Giles is intelligent and analytical but did not do well in the physical challenge, and at Tribal Council, the male-dominated alliance votes Misty out.

Among the wildlife spotted this episode are iguanas, a shiny green snake with a very large mouth and sand crabs.
