Day 30 begins with Cindy making coffee and she, Steph, Judd and Rafe enjoy theirs on the top step of the ruins while Gary, Danni and Lydia are on the ground. Gary feels left out and talks to Danni about making an alliance with Rafe. He sees that Lydia has now become an outsider, too. Danni says it's important to keep trying to find something that works.
The Immunity Challenge involves the story of the Moon Goddess, her children, husbands and lovers. It's a complicated tale, and the Survivors listen closely because there are seven stations, and they must go to each and assemble a puzzle which poses a question about the tale. If they get the answer right, they get a flag to hang by their individual finish line. If they get it wrong, they get a stick to toss in a fire and have to start over.
Lydia gets the first right answer. Judd and Steph get it wrong. Then it's a race to see who gets the answers right first. It's a three-way tie between Gary, Rafe and Cindy, with the two men running to reach the finish first, but Rafe wins. It's his third Immunity win and he comments that who would have thought a "little gay Mormon" could do all this?
With everyone else at risk for Tribal Council, the players head back to camp. Steph feels powerful. The first time she played, she was on the losing team, and now she's on the winning side. It feels too good to be true. Lydia and Danni talk, and Lydia feels vulnerable because she's not needed anymore and the numbers are against her.
Gary is feeling at risk since he's too big a threat to the others. He talks to Rafe who says he trusts Steph, but not 100%, and that he doesn't trust Judd at all. He says Danni is a strong player, and it appears that Gary may be successful in getting an alliance going with Rafe. Judd doesn't trust anyone and thinks Gary is a "lunatic" for trying to make an alliance. Gary knows he has to break up the strong alliance, and the sooner the better.
At Tribal Council, host Jeff Probst asks about the hostility he saw towards Steph from Lydia at the Reward Challenge. Immediately, the stress level and voices rise as Lydia defends herself saying again it was "nothing personal" but Steph disagrees. Judd says it was very personal and Steph denies that she's running the show. Gary chimes in saying that he likes Steph but the others are starstruck by Steph. He also claims he's never lied, when all along he's using a different name and claiming to be a landscaper rather than admit his identity and his past career as an ex NFL quarterback.
When asked. Cindy says she's happy with the way she's playing the game. Judd says he's going to start lying like everyone else does. He denies ever having told a lie, saying he's no good at lying, but Gary calls him on the one he told about the Hidden Idol being on the ground. Caught, Judd admits he told a lie.
The voting starts, with Judd voting for Gary. When the votes are read, there is one vote for Cindy, and the rest are for Gary, who is the twelfth person voted out. Gary leaves, saying he's had a great time and admits his identity as an ex-football quarterback. He says he lied to be able to play the game on his merits, not his past career. In the Family Moment, his family says they're proud of him and miss him.
In the next episode:
We're down to the Final Six. The next episodes promise to be full of "big battles" as Jeff notes, since "no one is going down without a fight."
