General Belgrano, Manuel José Joaquín del Corazón de Jesús Belgrano, is thought to have used this chair during the deliberations.

General Belgrano was bporn in Buenos Aires in 1770 and became an economist, lawyer, politician, and military leader whose victories prepared the way for the was of independence. He designed the Argentine flag.

Following the act of independence, the general campaigned for a constitutional monarchy led by an Inca descendent, but this idea did not gain support. Following illness and almost forgotten by the governoment he had helped form, General Belgrano died on June 20, 1820. June 20 is now observed nationally as Flad Day.
