In colonial times, Tucuman provided mules, cottona and textiles to Bolivia, for the silver mines in Potosi, and later the sugar industry became important. Today, Tucuman is a large, commercial city enjoying historical importance as rhe site for the signing of the Declaration of Independence from Spain. Prehistoric ruins, colonial sites and scenic attractions provide many sightseeing opportunities for the visitor.
