Along the shoreline, Avenida Maipu leads west to Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, while a block north, Avenida San Martin is the main commercial street.

You'll find most of the restaurants and lodgings nearby. Choices are between Casas de Familia, accommodations in family homes, usually just during the summer season, hotels, hospedajes, pensiones and residenciales. The Tourist Office on San Martin avenue has all the information.

Visitors may enjoy a visit to Estancia Harberton, a working farm developed by an Englishman, or to tthe penguin rookery, or a ride on the Tren del Fin del Mundo, a narrow gauge railroad built by convicts to bring wood to the city for building purposes.
