The teams spread out over two flights from Puerto Montt. Those arriving on the earlier plane have a distinct advantage as they take a taxi through Punta Arenas to find the wreck of a ship called Lord Lonsdale, known to the locals as Barco Viejo. At the boat site, the teams get their choice of Detour:
- Navigate: Find their way to the main plaza where a uniformed sailor will give them a compass to make their way to the Nautilus building, where they will get the next clue.
- Sign: Using the given suppllies, they must construct a signpost with all the ports of call, in the correct order from Seville, Spain on Ferdinand Magellan's round the world epic voyage.
