Antartic Shag on Rock
The Antarctic Shag (Phalacrocorax bransfieldensis) is considered a member of the "Blue-eyed Shag" complex, formerly considered all one species. The blue eye, not seen in this photo, is skin surrounding the dark iris and is most evident in the breeding season. This species breeds on the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetlands, and at Elephant Island.
